Yinnar Community Garden celebrates completion of mosaic steps

Great food and a wonderful atmosphere accompanied Yinnar Community Garden's celebration of the completion of the mosaic steps. 

Lisa Anderson designed the colourful mosaic with a large compass and motifs for the elementals: earth, fire, air and water, and the four seasons. It was constructed on the amphitheatre steps that were built with a grant from Mirboo North Community Association in 2016. 

Lisa and Sari have been working on the mosaic for over a year, with a little help from friends of the garden, it has been a labour of love. 

Sari quipped that it took quite a long time due to Lisa's attention to detail. Sari and Lisa, the multi-talented Anderson sisters, have now designed all the mosaic elements visioned for the garden - with the central circle mosaic designed by Sari, and the outdoor kitchen splashback designed by Lisa and constructed via community workshops. 

Members of the YCG toasted Sari and Marita (who stood in for Lisa who was visiting her new grand-daughter) with bubbly then shared a healthy afternoon tea that featured organic locally grown fresh fruit (watermelon, rockmelon, figs, peaches), tasty home baked goods and herbal teas of Lemon Verbena and Anise Myrtle from the garden. There was much discussion about Sari's watermelon and rockmelon that both started from seed at the YCG, and were then transplanted to a sunny plot in Yinnar where they thrived with regular watering when needed.
