Roger gets Support at Home: “Sometimes you need help to keep living in your own home”
Getting help before it is too late is important as we age – it is something 75-year-old Roger knows well.
Roger led an active life with his wife, Anne.
“I was reasonably fit, I enjoyed bush walking and outdoor activities,” he said. “But then I had a few little accidents, and I could no longer do the caravanning, and the bush walking and the bike riding.”
When Anne passed away, Roger found he needed some extra support. While he was still able to take care of himself, Roger wanted to stay on top of his health and his home before things became too hard.
“I can manage washing and caring for myself. But I cannot do gardening very well, I cannot bend down and pick things off the floor like I used to. Before things got too bad, I saw the writing on the wall that things needed to be managed,” Roger said.
Support at Home services have given him the freedom to keep living his life independently.
“I get help with cleaning, with light gardening. I get physiotherapy, which is really important to keep me moving and to get my strength up, and I get food support.”
Now, Roger can do the things he still loves doing – going on drives, reading and jigsaw puzzles, catching up with his daughters, and visits to the Men’s Shed in Rosedale.
“Sometimes you need help to keep living in your own home,” Roger said.
