The Lions Club of Churchill has had the great pleasure of hosting the overnight stay for the riders and their support crew who are raising funds for the Lions Ride For Sight charity, in Churchill on Thursday March 19, 2026. The Lions Ride for Sight is our District's fundraising project, raising funds for sight research to prevent and cure blindness. Funds raised from this Ride will go towards the Centre for Eye Research Australia (https://www.cera.org.au/) for important genetic engineering research.

Twenty nine riders with a support crew of ten arrived in Churchill an hour earlier than expected after a having started in Longwarry and ridden through the beautiful Strzelecki countryside to be welcomed by the Churchill Lions. As to be expected the riders were very pleased to get out of the saddle and enjoy a cold drink and the dim sim appetiser supplied by the Lions. After a hot shower the riders set up their various sleeping arrangements and then enjoyed a hearty meal of fish and chips with lots of different salads, followed by lashings of fruit, ice cream and yoghurt which was greatly appreciated by the riders.

Early the next morning the riders welcomed a hearty breakfast supplied by the Yinnar Lions Club who charged the riders up with egg and bacon sangas and a myriad of cereals, fruit and toast. Whilst the crew were enjoying breakfast, Lion Reg Grisotto presented the ride with a donation of $750.00 dollars which was once again greatly appreciated.

The next stage of the ride also known as the Strzelecki Spin takes them to Inverloch then to Nyora and back to Nyora.

The riders and support crew volunteer and donate their time and finances toward this event and as such our club would like to acknowledge our appreciation for the donation of the facilities by the Latrobe City Council and the sharing of the Gaskin Park Stadium with the Churchill Junior Football and Netball Club.
