ANZAC Day 2024 - Morwell

General scene of the ANZAC 2024 Morwell Service

A very large crowd gathered at the Town Common to form up to march to the cenotaph. The procession was led by members of the Hunter family on their waler horses. Then came the Caledonian Pipe Band, followed by the Morwell Fire Rescue Victoria men carrying the flags. Veterans and their families came next with Cadets, Scouts and others. The area around the cenotaph was ringed with the procession participants and further out were all those who had come to watch and lay wreaths. RSL President Don Fuller who was Master of Ceremonies, welcomed everyone naming special guests. The cadets formed the catafalque party which was done with great reverence and precision. The wreath laying was done from the four points of the cenotaph. Many wreaths were laid. Sue Townsend led the singing of the hymn ‘Abide with Me’ followed by the Salvation Army Captain saying the Lord’s Prayer.

The Guest Speaker was Commander David Munro who with his family, has had and still has, a commitment to the military. David’s time was particularly in the Navy.

Then the service continued with God Save the King, Ode to the Fallen, Last Post and silent tribute and Reveille again provided by Joseph Bonnici.

The New Zealand National Anthem was sung in Maori and English, a moving addition.

An invitation was extended to all those attending to come into the RSL for refreshments which many folks accepted
