A hop into campus life: Gippsland's unique residents
By Jubin Raju
Federation University Australia's Gippsland campus is home to a special kind of student, a family of four kangaroos that have captured the hearts of the university community. These gentle marsupials are not just occasional visitors; they have become a familiar sight, gracefully bounding across the green spaces, and reminding us of the wonders of Australian wildlife.
The kangaroos on campus have added a unique charm and excitement to the university community. However, it is essential to understand that these kangaroos are wild animals. While they can be a source of fascination and joy, we must also respect their space and well-being. As a university community, we should be cautious in embracing their presence, maintain a safe distance, and resist the urge to feed them. By doing so, we can ensure these campus regulars' safety and continued visits.
The presence of these kangaroos on campus is a beautiful example of how humans and wildlife can coexist peacefully, enriching our daily experiences. As we pursue our academic pursuits, let us appreciate and protect our unique campus companions, embodying the spirit of cohabitation and respect for nature.
Rise Crew assists new students during Orientation
The start of university can be an overwhelming experience, especially for new students. Thankfully, Federation University Australia's Rise Crew provided support and guidance during Orientation week. The Rise Crew played a vital role in ensuring that new students felt welcomed and supported as they embarked on their university journey.
On January 29, Rise Crew members underwent training from 11 am to 1 pm, which included essential details, skills, and information on becoming a Rise Crew member. Practical skills, such as barbeque making, were also taught, which came in handy during the Orientation week.
On February 26, Rise Crew members were busy setting up stalls and directional signs around the university to guide students to the Student Lounge for orientation. Throughout the week, Rise Crew members actively assisted new students. Under the guidance of the Student Engagement Officer Paige Saunders, they helped set up and serve meals, engaged with students, provided advice, and gave instructions for Actionbound activities.
The Rise Crew's dedication and support were instrumental in ensuring that new students felt welcomed and supported as they transitioned into university life. Thanks to their efforts, new students could focus on enjoying Orientation week and preparing themselves for an exciting university experience.
