Commendation for Churchill & District News

The Community Newspaper Association of Victoria meeting was held on line this year which allowed many to join and learn from the excellent speakers. The final session was the award for the various categories for which entries were submitted.

Churchill & District News entered several of the categories and we are thrilled to report that we were Runner Up in the Sport Reporting and gained a Special Mention in the History section.

The judges for the Sport’s award said “Regarding Churchill United Soccer Club 50th Anniversary front page story and four page spread on the club’s five decades, clearly an amazing amount of research and work has gone into preparing this extensive spread including photos from over the years and Teams of the Decades. The overall design looked fantastic and whilst it was a lengthy piece it was nicely balanced with the images and graphics. A top effort and one the club would no doubt have been thrilled with”.

In the History category the judge said -

“Just a special mention of the article which connected the COVID 19 epidemic to past health scares. Churchill News’ Hazelwood Cemetery article looked back at the lives of three people who died from the Spanish flu in 1919”.
